Obituary for Donald Anthony Madrid

Donald Agustin Madrid, age 79, of Colorado Springs, Colorado went peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. He was born on September 29, 1939 in San Luis, Colorado.

Donald Madrid was raised in San Luis Valley and later moved to Alamosa, Colorado where he started his family. He worked at the local gas station as an attendant until 1963, when he moved to Colorado Springs and started his career as a concrete finisher, a job at which he was highly skilled. One of Donald's favorite construction projects was assisting in the build of Fargo's Pizza in 1973. Donald was a proud Teamster union member and stayed with the union for the duration of his career. Donald retired in 1995.

Donald loved going to bingo with his wife Lucy and his family on a weekly basis. He also enjoyed slot machines, playing a friendly game of pool, and watching sports; especially the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. He was known for his friendly smile, his sense of humor, compassionate heart, and generous spirit.

Donald will be forever remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Donald is survived by his wife Lucy Madrid, his children Donald Madrid (Janet); Harold Madrid (Michelle); Anthony Madrid (Yvonne); and Michelle Madrid (Jon) from his first marriage to Vivian Madrid. Donald also has four stepchildren, Robert (Carmen) Gallegos; Nancy Benavidez Medina; Janice McLemore (Dale); and Benjamin Gallegos (Brandee) with Lucy Madrid who he married in 1993.

He is also survived by his siblings, Celsa Atencio; Joan Valdez; Justin Madrid; Toby Madrid; Adolph Madrid; Nancy Martello; Judy Abeyta; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Donald has 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Donald is preceded in death by his father and mother, Cornelio and Bertha Madrid, and brother Frank Madrid.
