Obituary for Elizabeth Martin Oates

Elizabeth was known as Betty by her closest family and friends. She was raised in Mingo Junction, Ohio.

After high school Betty was recruited as a typist for the Pentagon and moved up quickly. She moved to Washington D.C., where she met Walter Oates at Arthur Murrays Dance Studio. Betty and Walter (Mac) excelled as a ballroom dance duo winning many awards. They soon married and settled in Virginia. They had two children, Kathleen (Ray) and Kevin. Betty was a working Mom before it was a cultural norm, working as a budget analyst for the Navy in the Pentagon for 32 years.
Once retired, Betty and Mac followed Kathleen and Kevin to Colorado. She was a proud Grammy to grandchildren Chas (Colleen), Calla (Luke), and Austin. Betty was later blessed with 3 beautiful Great Granddaughters: Guinevere, Palmer and Rowan. Attending grand children and Great grand children’s events was a favorite past time as was playing Bingo with her friends and watching football. Betty lived independently and proud for 91 incredible and full years.

We as her family were very fortunate and blessed to have had her with us for many amazing years of celebration and joy.

We will miss her dearly but will forever be grateful for her love and graceful presence.
