Obituary for Leona Marie Dustrude

Leona was a beloved mother, neighbor and friend born in a sod house in Ramah, Colorado during a snowstorm, to Balther and Sophie Brown on the family farm.

Leona learned to cook at an early age and was in charge of making meals for her younger brothers and sisters. To this day, no one has the recipe for her Mystery Stew.

She attended school in Simla before marrying Stanley B. Dustrude, Sr. Leona and Stanley had a dairy farm in Ellicott for many years before running a trucking company together.

Leona enjoyed crocheting and her cross stitch work. She loved her cattle and her horse, Misty. She was a member of the Fountain Riding and Roping Club and enjoyed team sorting and speed point events with her son Stanley. Leona was proud of her cows and was always there with a helping hand.

Known by many kids as Mom Dustrude, she always tried to do what she could for her kids and supported all events her children and grandchildren participated in.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, her parents; brothers Alfred, Adolf, Lenard; sisters Agatha, Linda and their daughter Charlene. Leona is survived by her two sons Stanley Dustrude Jr. (Sheryl) and Steven Dustrude (Jamie); daughters Michelle Hockett (Bobby), Cathy (Tim) Johnston and grandchildren, Andrew, Charlene, Dusty, Amanda, Eddie Christina, Hayley, Courtney, Brooke, Christopher, Ethan, Scotty; brother Lawrence Brown, sister Albertine Hodgson and many friends.
