Obituary for Allen Gene Pope

Allen Gene Pope
Allen Gene Pope, age 87, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs and more recently Denver, passed away on January 22, 2018 in Denver. Gene was born on September 27, 1930 in Murphysboro, Illinois, a son of the late Fred and Delia Ross Pope. He and his wife Elsie moved to Colorado Springs in 1957.

Gene enjoyed camping, driving and hiking in the mountains, and bird-watching. He was incredibly handy at building furnishings for his kids and structures for Elsie’s gardening. He enjoyed watching Sunday football, but also attended classical music concerts with Elsie as season ticket holders for many years. Gene was an architect, working for several firms in Colorado Springs since the late 1950s. Interest in architecture extended beyond work, through his excellent photography of buildings and ruins in the Rockies and Southwest.

Gene is survived by his three children, Gregory A. (Carolyn Sarna) of Randolph, New Jersey, Jeffrey W. Pope of Denver and Leslie A. Dye of Denver; a sister, Delores (Ronald) Hagler of St. George, Utah; and three grandchildren, Averie Floyd, Alexander Pope and Veronica Pope.

Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 PM on Friday, January 26th, at Evergreen Funeral Home, at 1830 E. Fountain Blvd. Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. The family will be hosting an open house from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 27th in Denver. Please email popejeffreyw@msn.com for the address.
