Obituary for George Nelson Hubbert

George Nelson Hubbert, 80, died at home with his family on October 3rd, 2018. He was born in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan on March 3, 1938. George, fondly referred to as “Joe” by his friends and children, helped his father on their dairy farm, growing up with his six siblings.

Joe met Donna Mae Yandle while stationed in the Army at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs. They were married on September 29, 1963, after which time they moved to Lodi, Ohio where they had their first child, Stephen Michael. Eventually Donna and Joe moved to Wisconsin where Joe worked on various dairy farms. While in Wisconsin, Joe and Dee had two more children, Sheila Kristine and Andrew Mark. Eventually Joe and his family moved back to Colorado in 1978 where Joe worked on a dairy farm, followed by construction work, over the road truck driving and last working as a maintenance employee for Travel Center of America.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Emery Hubbert and Marion Elizabeth (Edgerton), his brothers Clarence ("Charlie") and John and his son, Stephen. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Donna; daughter Sheila Zappanti; son Andrew Hubbert; grandchildren Trisha, Alicia, Ashley Jo, Ryan and Ethan; great grandchildren Madyanna and Naomi; sisters Liz and Amy and brothers Russell and David

There will be a celebration of life service on Sunday, October 21st at the Evergreen Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. located at 1830 E. Fountain Boulevard in Colorado Springs.
