Obituary for Margaret Pearl JOHNSON

Margaret Pearl Johnson was born to Plez and Pearl Weekley on April 17, 1914 in Grand Rapids Michigan and departed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. She was 104 years old.

After moving to Colorado Springs in 1955, she met Lawrence Johnson. They married in July 1957 at Fort Carson and celebrated 57 years of marriage before his passing in January, 2015.

Margaret was a faithful member of Payne Chapel AME Church having served in the Hostess Club for the duration of it existence and various other committees.

She was a member of the 400 Club and a generous supporter of the Jolly Jills Civic and Social Club. She moved both of her parents to Colorado Springs in order to care for them and did so until their deaths. She was an avid bowler, participating in several leagues and traveled on many bowling trips with family until 1994. Reading was one of her favorite past times averaging at least 3 books a week and always donated what she had read to the Red Cross for others to enjoy.

She was preceded in death by Her Parents, Husband - Lawrence, Daughter - Donna, Son-in-Law - Tommie, Brothers - Maurice, Russell, James, Charles and Carlos and Sister - Della. Her Granddaughter - Julie and Great Grandson - Anthony also preceded her in death.

She is survived by 2 Brothers - Ray and Dion (Valerie) Warrick, 4 Grandchildren - Linda, Lonnie, Leona and Wanda, 13 Great Grandchildren, 32 Great Great Grandchildren, and 16 Great Great Great Grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, including special friends - Carrie Pea, Ella Stanton, Leon and Barbara Love and Terry and Margaret Holden.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Payne Chapel AME Church, 3625 Marion Drive, Colorado Springs, CO., 80909
