Obituary for Anthony Russell Occhiuto

Anthony Russell Occhiuto
Anthony Russell Occhiuto was born in July 25, 1926 in Sheffield, Warren, Pennsylvania and died quietly in his sleep on July 29, 2018 at Cheyenne Mountain Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado at 1:45 am. He had been residing in a nursing home for some time as his health declined and was 92 years old at the time of his passing.

Tony, as he was known by those close to him, was the youngest of two sons of Francesco Paolo "Frank" Occhiuto (deceased) and Rose Frances Scalise (deceased). He is survived by his older brother Frank Paul Occhiuto Jr. (93 of Denver, Colorado). He and his brother were first generation Americans. His father immigrated from Calabria, Italy when he was 14 years old paying his own passage with $25 in his pocket.
His father served proudly and was wounded in the World War running his own shoe repair shop after the war.

He was married on January 19, 1948 and is survived by Joan Arlene, 89 of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In his early days, Tony was a meat cutter for the Scottsbluff, Nebraska Co-op and Safeway Stores before joining Mutual of Omaha as an insurance agent in the sand hills of Nebraska in the late 1950's. His career grew taking him to Omaha, Nebraska and Milwaukee, Wisconsin in management roles where he was highly regarded for his accomplishments and awards. Finally, he moved his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he was appointed by Mutual of Omaha as the Division Office Manager for the Southern Colorado Area.

In his role of father, leader and mentor, Tony impacted many lives in a very special and positive way and was known as an innovator changing the direction of the insurance industry with his influence both company wide and nationally. He was a consider a dapper "snappy" dresser and always had a joke and a smile for everyone he had contact with but was also driven toward results. He achieved rewards during his career with Mutual of Omaha that have yet to be eclipsed by any other manager. He retired in the early 1990's to enjoy his life with Arlene and his family .

Tony and Arlene had three sons who also followed him into the insurance industry with Mutual of Omaha. Thomas (69 of Tucson, Arizona), Michael (67 of Omaha, Nebraska) and Timothy (62 of Canon City, Colorado). He is survived by ten grandchildren Amanda , Thomas, Rusty, Alicia, Tabitha,
Sabrina, Nicholas, Samantha, Christopher, Todd, ''TJ" and fifteen great grandchildren.
