Obituary for Connie Anderson

Connie (Martinez) Anderson, 79, died peacefully in her own home on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. She was holding the hands of her son, Jesse and her daughter-in-law, Cheryle as she passed. She is preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings. She leaves behind her daughter Vivian Martinez; her son Jesse Martinez and his wife Cheryle; her eight grandchildren, Sarah (Ian) Shaw, Rachel (Brandon) Lamb, Daniel, Emily, Isabel, Annemarie, Victoria, and Lucia; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Lamb and Ramona Shaw; and three of her younger siblings, Joe, David, and Olivia.
Connie was the fifth of Jacob and Lucy Martinez’s ten children, born on November 12, 1937. Her hometown was Delano, California where her family settled in her early childhood. In 1971, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado with her two children, Vivian and Jesse, and her sister Olivia. She made Colorado Springs her permanent home, working for the Colorado Springs Police Department, 9-1-1 and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department until her retirement in 2004.
Connie was a lifelong Catholic and, especially in her final years, could rarely be seen without a rosary in her hand. She was an LA Lakers fan with almost equal fervor. She is remembered by her many friends as being fun-loving and fiercely independent. She is remembered by her family for her unconditional love. The greatest joy in her life was found in her grandchildren -- there has never been a more devoted grandmother than Grandma Connie, as she was known for the last 26 years of her life.
