Obituary for SSG James Vinson Hill Jr.

SSG James V. Hill lost his battle with cancer on October 7, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
James was born on May 29, 1967 in Texarkana, Texas. After graduating from High School in Pueblo in 1985 he immediately enlisted in the United States Army. He served two tours of duty; Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon his return in 2004 he met Michelle Narron and in 2005 they married. Home was in Colorado Springs where James worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at Fort Carson and was in the Colorado National Guard. He was a loving and dedicated husband, son, friend, and soldier.
James was known by all as Strong and Silent. He was a man of few words but it was in his actions that he spoke volumes. He was a patient and kind man, and his calm demeanor made him a great leader who inspired strength and perseverance in others. James loved life and made a point to look at each day as a gift and blessing. He had a passion for home life, his wife Michelle, his family and friends, and his dogs, Indy, Chloe, and Pearl. He always enjoyed the adventure of the unknown, taking chances, and driving the road less traveled, he also had a playful and mischievous side and loved playing practical jokes on all!
James lived by these words: Keep trying no matter how hard things get. Keep praying. Stay positive, and find something to make you smile even in the darkest of days. Have faith and be grateful for something every day. Be kind and show compassion. Love with all your heart. And always strive to be better, not better than others but better than the person you were yesterday.
James Hill is survived by his wife, Michelle Hill, and his mother, Linda Hill of Pueblo, and extended family.
A memorial and celebration of life for SSG Hill will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 East Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910 on October 12, 2017 at 3:00pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of James Hill.
