Obituary for Carl William Davis

Carl William Davis
December 29, 1925 – January 18, 2017

“Bill” passed away in the early morning hours of January 18. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, his dedication, love, patience and wit will be sorely missed.

Born in O’Fallon, IL, he was raised in Chicago. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he fought in the Pacific theatre until his honorable discharge in 1945. Following his service, Bill returned to Chicago and married Leah Van Sandt in 1948. They moved to Decatur, IL where he attended Millikin University, earning a Bachelors Degree in accounting in 1951.

Following a career in public accounting, he became a real estate developer and apartment and condominium builder in the suburbs of Chicago. In 1987 Bill and Leah moved from Illinois to Colorado Springs, where he became a custom homebuilder.

Bill loved family, good food, travel, philosophy, science, humor, movies, Maui, and the Chicago Blackhawks and Cubs. He also loved to write. Fifty years after the end of World War II, he wrote his memoir “No Man Is An Island” about his service in the Marines. This teenager was indelibly and forever affected by his experience at war.

Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, Leah, sons Jim (Michele), Mark (Marilyn), Barry (Sheree), Bob (Barb), Jack (Gloria), grandchildren Danielle, Zachary, Adam, Casey, Ashley, Tyler, Kailyn, Derek, James, Rachel, Samantha, Alex, Andi, great grandchildren Taylor, Reid, Brodie, Maddyn, Trevor, Bennett, and Rory.
