Obituary for Karin Jean White

Karin Jean White, a long-time resident of Colorado Springs, CO, a devoted wife, sister, and a friend to many, died unexpectedly July 26, 2017 at the age of 61 after a recent cancer diagnosis.
Karin is survived by her husband, David Lynn White; her sister Kristina LaFirenza (Bergstrom); her brothers, Eric and Steven Bergstrom; her brother-in-law, Steven LaFirenza; her niece, Gedina Bergstrom; her nephews, Ryan and Justin LaFirenza; her great-niece, Liliana LaFirenza; and their babies, Buddy and Smokey. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald Bergstrom and Jean Ingram (Toohey); her brother, David Bergstrom; and their babies Gus, Lesha, Peanut, Sadie, Schnapps, Scruffy, and Stashew.
Karin was born in San Jose, CA, the eldest of five children. She met who would soon become her husband in 1978, a chance encounter that moved them to the Midwest. Intentions were to settle in Denver but Colorado Springs wouldn’t let them go. Karin and David married in 1982 and spent 35 years together, enjoying all that the home of Pikes Peak had to offer.
During her tenure, Karin worked for three companies – Digital Equipment, Compaq, and Hewlett Packard – all from the same desk. What Karin really loved was to travel with her man – the beach was their favorite. You could find them sipping Pina Coladas in Hawaii, Playa Del Carmen or the Cayman Islands. Karin also loved a good historical novel, her passion being the 14th Century. Gardening was a close second to travel. There was never a time that the back yard was not in full bloom (unless they got 2 feet of snow the night before). Last, but certainly not least, she loved to sew. Always had something in her hand to work on – quilt, cross stitch, beach bags. In the last 10 years, Karin and David, with babies in tow, took to the road in their 5th wheel, trekking across the US. Since the beach was their favorite destination, her final year was consumed with finding the best place to put their feet in the water. September was to be the beginning of their quest. Sadly, this trek was not to be. In her memory, David and her babies will complete this plan she so passionately put together. Upon their final destination, Karin will be finally laid to rest, ashes spread nearby. She will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew her.
A funeral service will take place at 11am on Tuesday, August 1, at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 E Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO. If desired and in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions in memory of Karin be made to the National Mill Dog Rescue, 5335 J D Johnson Rd, Peyton, CO, 80831.
