Dudley Clarence “DC” Hattaway
On February 23, 2017, Dudley Clarence Hattaway passed away at home. DC had been a resident of Calhan, Colorado for almost 26 years, after previously residing in Fontainebleau, Mississippi.
DC was born in Newton, Mississippi on November 4, 1931. He grew up there and later lived in Laurel, MS prior to moving to Fontainebleau. He was preceded in death by his parents, a younger brother and an infant son. He leaves behind his wife Bonnie, to whom he was married for 63 years. Also surviving him are two sisters, Imogene and Jane; a son Jimmy; two grandsons, Jason (Michelle) and Justin (Michelle); a daughter-in-law, Michelle; two great-grandchildren, Torrington and Dixon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Following high school, DC completed a stint in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. After returning home, DC would go on to complete ten years at a Masonite plant. Following the plant’s closure, DC worked for twenty-six years as a crane operator for Ingalls Shipyard.
DC was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and family man. For the past ten years, he cared daily for his older sister, Imogene, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and other health problems. For the past three years, he also waited on his wife, Bonnie, who suffers age-related health problems and balance issues.
DC was an avid outdoorsman, and loved hunting and fishing. Dogs and horses held special places in his heart. He also enjoyed raising cows and watching westerns from every era. DC was respected and loved very much by his family, and will be severely missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Living Word Community Church, 532 Colorado Avenue, Calhan, CO. Burial will be in Calhan Cemetery.
