Obituary for William Michael "Bill" Knapp

William Michael Knapp died June 13, 2016 at the Union Printers Home in Colorado Springs, where he had been a resident for twelve years. He was born August 2, 1956 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia to an Air Force family. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1974, and attended the former Southern Colorado State College for two years. Bill was an accomplished painter and potter. His artwork is proudly displayed by a number of caregivers and friends, who marveled at his impressionist themes, depictions of planets and galaxies, and faith. Bill was an avid amateur astronomer and observer of butterflies. He was active in the Colorado Springs Heart Circle and Colorado ManREACH and was a member of Colorado Springs Astronomical Society. Bill's opulent mane of hair was envied by many. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by two sisters and a brother. Quoting from a tribute Bill wrote for a dear friend, “Weep we may, but not ashamed, because tears are like God’s rain filling up a parched valley to form a calm lake that mirrors the stars.” Contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Colorado Springs Heart Circle, Colorado ManREACH, and Colorado Springs Astronomical Society.
