Obituary for James Oscar Johns

James Oscar Johns, born July 9, 1929 in Thompsonville, Illinois, died April 3, 2016.

He passed away at his home in Security, Colorado where he lived with his wife of more than 51 years, Dorothy Louise Roberts.

They retired to the area after Jim served 30 distinguished years in the U.S. Army. He fought in both Korea and Viet Nam, and retired as a Command Sergeant Major in 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a sister, Donna Graves, of Benton, Illinois; five children: Steven Johns (Norma) of Houston, Texas; Mark Johns (Phyllis) of Midwest City, Oklahoma; Marsha Jacoby of Security, Colorado; Marilyn Daschofsky (Dan) of Walla Walla, Washington; Dawn Clark (Darrell) of Aurora, Colorado, and 15 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.

Jim had many talents from gardening to woodworking, and he played the guitar and banjo. He had an infectious sense of humor and a proclivity for making everyone feel valued and loved, because that is how he saw them and treated them accordingly.

He was always concerned with the welfare and well-being of others, and never hesitated to give of his time, his talents and his means to those in need. His greatest passions in life were for his country, his faith and religion and, above all else, his family.

His good deeds and unfailing example will live on in the hearts of the countless lives he touched. His life was truly a blessing to all those who knew him and his family and friends mourn his passing.
